Making your own drinks at home saves a trip to the bar …

Mango or Papaya Margarita (2 serves)

Throw the following into a Vitamiser (Blender):

  • 2 cups of frozen fruit (can be any of the tropical type but banana is yucky)
  • 1 measure of Tequila
  • 1 measure of Cointreau
  • Some additional icecubes.
  • The juice of 2 limes
  • 2 measures of simple syrup (equal parts sugar and water boiled and cooled)

Blend till it turns into a slushy. Add a monkey, an umbrella, a tropical flower etc. etc. and enjoy!!  You can vary the grog amount.  You can leave it out completely for a Shirley Temple.  Don’t drink too fast or you will get an icecream headache – scientific name sphenopalatine ganglioneuralgia – which pressing the tongue against the roof of the mouth to warm the area may relieve.

The drink above is actually quite healthy in moderation as the fruit content balances up the alcohol and sugar content.
