GARLIC is not just for repelling vampires but is the base of really effective insect repellent.
If you want to make it yourself, the recipe is below:
Basic Soap Spray
1 to 2 tablespoons liquid soap made by grating Velvet soap or Lux flakes and melting them in water.
1 litre water
Combine ingredients in a bucket, mix, then transfer to a spray bottle as needed.
This is a good counter to sooty mould and munching insects and caterpillars.
Add Garlic to repel lawn grubs, flies, mossies, ticks and pretty much everything including vampires.
2 or 3 bulbs of strong garlic, chopped (use the non-mild garlic with the purple skin if you can find it and young).
Cover with boiling water overnight, strain and add to the soap spray. I like to freeze small quantities in ziplock freezer bags as it goes off fast. If you make a huge quantity just double up ingredients accordingly.
Add some canola oil (around a tablespoon per bottle) to spray puddles etc. to stop mossies breeding or in the dog’s bowl to counteract wrigglers.
Put into a spray bottle and spray liberally around your garden. You can use a massive sprayer to do the entire lawn and trees. The smell does go after a couple of hours but wear gloves while you are making it! Make this up when garlic is cheap. Or you can buy the garlic from the vege wholesaler!
If you are getting tick attacks while bush walking, OIL your legs with baby oil as ticks slide off before attaching.
