Are you a fashion designer with a sustainable edge? Why not test your mettle with Australian Museum and the Fashion Less Waste Design Competition! This year the Australian Museum is hosting its FASHION LESS WASTE Design Competition with the theme: Birds of Paradise.
Your inspiration will be from the fantastically extravagant avian family Paradisaeidae. Picture below is the Red Bird of Paradise.
The competition is to create an outfit made from materials whose original purpose was not related to fashion such as tea towels, DVDs, plastic bags etc.
The top 10 finalists will showcase their outfit in a runway show on May 19, 2011 where the judges will decide the best design.
The judging elite this year includes:
- Akira Isogawa, founder of Akira
- Louise Olsen, co-founder of Dinosaur Designs
- Kelley Sheenan, founder and editor of Peppermint Magazine
- Matt Paroz senior writer of Peppermint Magazine, and author of www.howbigisyoureco.com.au
whoa.
Now in its third year, Fashion Less Waste is open to any budding designer, including secondary students who take on the project as part of class or as an independent project.
