Homemade Hummus

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 15-oz cans of garbanzo beans; drained
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2/3 cup of tahini
  • 1/3 cup lemon juice (or lime juice)
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 2 tsp minced ginger
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp cumin
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper

DIRECTIONS

combine all ingredients in a food processor and pulse until smooth (if you don’t have a food processor, you can use a hand held mixer for a chunkier consistence). adjust seasonings to taste and spoon into a serving bowl. serve with veggies, pita bread or crackers. makes about 3 cups.

This recipe is delicious. I am using more hummus to make up for the lack of avocados at the moment (I am paying aruond $3.00 per avocado) so this is a great spread on my sandwiches and I even put it in baked potatos!
