Australians love our thongs (sandals!). It is the must have footwear for Summer, Spring, Autumn and even Winter in the northern states. Now our iconic footwear can also help out and raise awareness of the plight of the honeybee.
Honeybees has teamed up with leading bee pathologist Dr Denis Anderson and his research organisation Bees Downunder to work together to raise $1 million dollars to go towards the research of creating a new strain of honeybees with inbuilt protection against the deadly Varroa mite.
Dr Denis Anderson first achieved international acclaim for discovering the deadly Varrora virus that has been devastating bee populations worldwide.
Now you can help the research as $2 from every pair of Honeybees sold will go directly towards protecting our little buzzing friends!
So let’s have a look at them!
I was able to get my hands on a pair and I love them! I mean, yes I am Australian so it felt very normal just to put on my thongs to head out to do my daily tasks. I wore them to the chemist, I walked a few hills, I wandered around the shops (all in the name of research!) and they were great!
I didn’t feel any weird rubbing on my toe and they do look nicer than the average thong so I wouldn’t hesitate to wear them somewhere a little dressier than the shops.
They are made from 100% recycled rubber and therefore can be recycled at the end of their life. As you can see from my photos of the box, it is super slim and the whole box can be recycled and there was no excess plastic packaging or anything. Fantastic and well thought through.
I highly recommend a pair and I am probably going to buy a few more colours since they are super cute and I can’t help myself!
So check out the HoneyBees website and see the wonderful range they have on offer!
